Tartus Port Holds Training on Free Pratique Procedures

Shipping Arabia, October 7, 2026 – Tartus Port has organized a training course on free pratique procedures to strengthen staff knowledge of the committee’s responsibilities, improve understanding of its working mechanisms and raise operational readiness when receiving vessels.

The course was organized by the port’s Administrative Development Department and focused on the protocols and procedures followed by the free pratique committee. It forms part of efforts by the General Authority for Borders and Customs to develop the capabilities of personnel working at Syrian ports.

Free Pratique Requirements and Vessel Arrival Procedures

The training covered the requirements that vessels must meet before free pratique can be granted, as well as the steps that must be completed before normal interaction with the vessel is permitted.

Participants also reviewed coordination mechanisms between the relevant authorities and the procedures used to handle different situations that may arise when vessels arrive at Tartus Port.

Free pratique is granted after a vessel fulfills the required health conditions. Once granted, it allows people to embark and disembark and enables loading and unloading operations to begin in accordance with the approved procedures.

Training Focuses on Standardized Port Procedures

The course also focused on standardizing working procedures and strengthening cooperation between members of the free pratique committee and the different departments operating within the port.

According to the authority, this coordination is intended to improve readiness and support the consistent application of approved health and regulatory standards when vessels arrive.

By improving staff familiarity with free pratique procedures, the training aims to strengthen the efficiency of vessel reception processes while ensuring that the required health and administrative controls are properly applied.

Developing Skills Across Syrian Ports

The course is part of the General Authority for Borders and Customs’ broader efforts to train personnel working across Syrian ports and develop their operational skills.

The authority said these efforts are intended to enhance safety, improve performance efficiency, support smoother port operations and raise the overall standard of port services.
