The visit included a tour of the Tahya Misr 1 Container Terminal, which has an annual handling capacity of approximately 3.5 million TEUs.

The meeting was attended by Rear Admiral Dr. Ahmed Hamdy Abdel Aziz, Vice Chairman of Damietta Port Authority, alongside senior department heads and officials.

Damietta Port Development Projects Offer Investment Opportunities

During the meeting, Abdallah welcomed the Canadian ambassador and his accompanying delegation, emphasizing the Authority’s interest in expanding cooperation with Canadian partners in areas of mutual interest.

He highlighted the major development projects underway at Damietta Port and the opportunities they present for investment and future partnerships.

The chairman pointed to the presence of Methanex Egypt at Damietta Port as an example of existing Canadian investment. He described the company’s presence as a foundation for exploring additional cooperation opportunities between Egyptian and Canadian stakeholders.

Following the meeting, the delegation received a presentation outlining the port’s principal terminals, competitive advantages and ongoing development projects.

The presentation covered infrastructure and superstructure improvements designed to strengthen the port’s operational and logistics capabilities. These projects form part of broader efforts to enhance Damietta Port’s capacity and competitiveness in maritime trade.

Canadian Ambassador Tours Tahya Misr 1 Container Terminal

A key highlight of the visit was a field tour of Damietta Port’s terminals and facilities, including the Tahya Misr 1 Container Terminal.

During the tour, terminal officials briefed Ambassador Shannon on the facility’s operational capabilities, infrastructure, equipment and competitive advantages. They also explained its role in supporting container-handling operations at the port.

The visit provided the Canadian delegation with an opportunity to examine the terminal’s facilities and understand its contribution to Damietta Port’s wider development program.
