Umm Qasr North Port Handles Heavy Oil and Power Equipment Shipment from China
Shipping Arabia, July 13, 2026 – Iraq’s Umm Qasr North Port has received the KSL FUYANG carrying heavy oilfield and electrical equipment from Shanghai, including two generators weighing 163 tonnes each.
The vessel berthed at Pier 17 on July 8 with about 1,350 cargo units of varying sizes and weights, according to the General Company for Ports of Iraq.
The shipment included specialized equipment for oil companies operating in Iraq, oil pipes and the two heavy generators.
Capt. Alaa Al-Aqili, director general of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, said the discharge operation was being carried out under detailed operational plans using specialized handling methods to ensure the safe and efficient movement of heavy and oversized cargo.
He said the shipment reflected the technical and logistics capabilities of Iraqi ports in handling project cargo, heavy equipment and other specialized consignments required by the country’s energy and infrastructure sectors.
The company is continuing to improve port performance under directives from Transport Minister Wahab Al-Hassani, with a focus on raising operational standards, accelerating cargo handling and strengthening the role of Iraqi ports as strategic gateways for trade and investment.
The arrival of the KSL FUYANG also highlights Umm Qasr’s growing role in supporting major industrial and development projects through the handling of complex cargoes requiring specialized equipment, planning and operational coordination.
The General Company for Ports of Iraq said it would continue expanding port capabilities and improving services to meet the requirements of the country’s productive sectors and wider economic development plans.
