ADC Concludes Maersk Training Workshop to Improve Efficiency at Aqaba Oil and LPG Terminal

Shipping Arabia, July 10, 2026 – Aqaba Development Corporation has concluded a specialized workshop aimed at improving operational efficiency and increasing the effective capacity of the Aqaba Oil and LPG Terminal.

The workshop, organized by ADC in cooperation with Maersk Training from June 30 to July 2, brought together senior representatives from key public and private sector entities involved in the terminal’s operations.

The program opened with a joint GEMBA site visit to the terminal and related stakeholder facilities, allowing participants to observe operational processes directly, engage with relevant entities and identify key challenges, bottlenecks and root causes affecting vessel berthing and terminal performance.

Workshop sessions, held at the Aqaba National Vocational Training Complex, focused on the operational, technical and coordination factors contributing to vessel berthing delays at the terminal. Participants also reviewed related financial impacts, including demurrage costs, and identified measures to improve berth utilization, reduce waiting times and strengthen coordination.

Using Lean A3 methodology, participants mapped the vessel handling process, identified root causes of delays, agreed on priority interventions and developed an implementation plan with clear actions, responsibilities, timelines and measurable performance indicators.

ADC Chief Executive Officer Hussein Safadi said the program supports ADC’s efforts to improve operational efficiency, strengthen stakeholder coordination and build institutional capacity, while advancing Aqaba’s role as a regional logistics and maritime hub.

Vijay Rangachari, Managing Director, AMEA at Maersk Training, said the cooperation reflects a long-term partnership approach focused on continuous improvement and leadership excellence across Aqaba’s maritime and logistics ecosystem.

Per Strandbygaard, TWI and Lean Master Trainer at Maersk Training, said the initiative marks an important first step in ADC’s Lean journey, noting that Lean tools can help teams solve operational problems, address root causes and build a sustainable culture of continuous improvement.

Improving coordination across the Oil and LPG Terminal remains an immediate priority, with practical efficiency gains expected through stronger process alignment, clearer stakeholder responsibilities and focused execution ahead of any longer-term infrastructure expansion.

The workshop was implemented with the participation of ADC, Maersk Training, the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management, Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company, Jordan Oil Terminals Company, TotalEnergies, Jordan Petroleum Products Marketing Company, Manaseer Oil & Gas and other key sector stakeholders.
