Sokhna Port Receives 150-Tonne Crane for General Cargo and Dry Bulk Terminal
Shipping Arabia, July 10, 2026 – Sokhna Port has received the CHIPOLBROK SUN carrying a 150-tonne Terex-Gottwald crane, marking a further step in the development of general cargo and dry bulk handling capacity at one of Egypt’s key Red Sea gateways.
The crane is assigned to the general cargo and dry bulk terminal operated by Trans Cargo International, one of the new operators at Sokhna Port. The terminal is located in Basin 6 and includes a 676-meter quay and a back-up area of about 70,000 square meters.
The current phase represents the first stage of Trans Cargo International’s operations at the port. Full operations are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027, expanding the terminal’s total area to 335,000 square meters and strengthening Sokhna’s ability to handle a wider range of cargoes.
Three additional cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 150 tonnes, are expected to arrive during July as part of the equipment package for the terminal. Their deployment is intended to support faster cargo handling, improve berth productivity and make better use of the port’s upgraded infrastructure.
The Suez Canal Economic Zone is advancing the development of Sokhna Port as part of a wider strategy to increase port capacity, diversify logistics services and enhance the competitiveness of Egypt’s Red Sea port network.
The arrival, installation and operation of the new equipment are being coordinated with Egypt’s Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Finance and Egyptian Customs Authority, as the port prepares for the next phase of terminal operations.
