Aqaba Container Terminal Appoints Jose Rueda as New CEO

Shipping Arabia, May 20, 2026 – Aqaba Container Terminal has announced the appointment of Jose Rueda as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Harald Nijhof, who served the terminal for several years.

The leadership transition marks a new phase for the Jordanian container terminal operator as it continues strengthening its role as a strategic gateway for regional trade and logistics across the Levant and surrounding markets.

Rueda brings decades of international experience in shipping, port management, and logistics, having held senior leadership roles across Spain, Mexico, Turkey, and Costa Rica. Throughout his career, he has managed large-scale terminal operations and complex supply chain environments in multiple international markets.

His academic background includes an MBA from EAE Barcelona, degrees in Nautical Sciences and Maritime Transportation from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and executive education in Public Engagement from the University of Oxford.

Prior to joining ACT, Rueda served as Managing Director of APM Terminals Moin in Costa Rica, where he oversaw the country’s main export gateway and managed significant cargo throughput growth. His leadership approach has focused on operational efficiency, safety performance, productivity improvement, and customer service enhancement through the implementation of Lean operational methodologies.

Rueda is also recognized for his experience in stakeholder engagement and government relations, including the negotiation of concession agreements and the development of partnerships with both public and private sector entities.

ACT said the appointment reflects its commitment to maintaining world-class leadership while continuing to expand service capabilities and strengthen Aqaba’s position as a regional trade and logistics hub supporting Jordan and neighboring markets.
