Saudi Arabia Advances Maritime Cooperation Through Bilateral Talks at IMO Council
Shipping Arabia, July 16, 2026 – Saudi Arabia held a series of high-level bilateral meetings with maritime partners and international organizations on the sidelines of the 137th session of the International Maritime Organization Council in London, focusing on closer cooperation, maritime safety and the exchange of expertise.
The meetings were led by Transport General Authority President Fawaz Al-Sahli as part of the Kingdom’s participation in the IMO Council session and its broader efforts to strengthen engagement with regional and international maritime stakeholders.
Al-Sahli met with Oman’s Undersecretary for Transport Khamis Al-Shamakhi, Cyprus Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanolis and IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez.
Discussions explored opportunities to advance the maritime sector through greater technical and institutional cooperation, knowledge exchange and the development of partnerships with countries and international maritime organizations.
The meetings also emphasized the importance of maritime safety and security as central elements in supporting efficient shipping operations, protecting international trade routes and strengthening the resilience of global supply chains.
Saudi Arabia’s engagement during the IMO Council session reflects the Kingdom’s efforts to expand international maritime cooperation and contribute to discussions shaping the future of global shipping. It also supports national initiatives aimed at developing the maritime transport sector and reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub under Saudi Vision 2030.
The bilateral talks complemented the Kingdom’s participation in the council’s discussions on strategic maritime transport issues and provided a platform to exchange experience, identify areas of mutual interest and strengthen coordination with key maritime partners.
