CMA CGM Freight Rate Increases Set for Asia–Mediterranean and North Africa in November

Shipping Arabia, October 22, 2026 – CMA CGM has announced freight rate increases for shipments from Asia to the Mediterranean, Black Sea and North Africa, effective November 1–14, 2026. The revised Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates cover 20-foot and 40-foot containers, with charges reaching $7,100 per 40-foot container for shipments to North Africa.

The French container shipping group, the world’s third-largest container carrier, announced the revised pricing in a company statement reported by Egyptian financial newspaper Al Mal. The adjustments cover five destination regions, with different rates applying according to container size and destination.

CMA CGM Freight Rate Increases Across Mediterranean Routes

Under the revised pricing structure, shipments from Asia to the Western Mediterranean will cost $3,900 per 20-foot container and $4,900 per 40-foot container. Rates for shipments to the Adriatic Sea will reach $4,000 and $5,000, respectively.

For the Eastern Mediterranean, CMA CGM has set freight rates at $4,200 per 20-foot container and $5,200 per 40-foot container. The carrier will apply identical rates to shipments from Asia to Black Sea ports.

Meanwhile, North Africa will face the highest charges among the five announced destination regions. Freight rates for this market will reach $5,300 per 20-foot container and $7,100 per 40-foot container.

The pricing structure places North Africa above the other listed destinations for both container sizes. For 40-foot containers, the announced North African rate exceeds the Western Mediterranean rate by $2,200 and the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea rates by $1,900.

Across the Western Mediterranean, Adriatic, Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea routes, the announced rates for 40-foot containers are $1,000 higher than those for 20-foot containers. In contrast, the difference reaches $1,800 for shipments to North Africa.

The revised FAK rates will apply during the first two weeks of November, from November 1 through November 14, 2026.

CMA CGM Introduces Peak Season Surcharge From South America

In a separate announcement, CMA CGM has introduced a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) of $150 per container for dry cargo shipments originating from the West Coast of South America.

The additional charge will take effect on November 1, 2026, and will apply to shipments serving multiple destinations across the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region.

In Central America and the Caribbean, the surcharge will cover shipments to the East Coast of Central America, the Caribbean region, the East Coast of Mexico, and the Leeward and Windward Islands.

The measure will also extend to shipments destined for the East Coast of South America, Canada and the United States. Outside the Americas, CMA CGM will apply the same surcharge to shipments bound for Australia and New Zealand.

Unlike the revised FAK rates for Asia–Mediterranean and North African services, which specify different amounts for 20-foot and 40-foot containers, the South American peak season surcharge is announced as a flat $150 charge per dry container.

Both pricing adjustments are scheduled to take effect on November 1, 2026, covering separate international container shipping trades.
