Damietta Port’s RORO Corridor Drives Growing Transit Cargo Flows to Gulf Markets
Shipping Arabia, May 20, 2026 – Damietta Port Authority continues to strengthen its position as a regional logistics hub amid growing reliance on the RORO shipping service linking Damietta Port with the Italian port of Trieste, a route increasingly used to facilitate cargo movement between Europe and Gulf markets.
The port recently received 42 trucks carrying various cargoes with a combined weight of approximately 720 tons as part of indirect transit shipments bound for Gulf destinations including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Bahrain. The cargoes were processed through Damietta Port before continuing their journey via Safaga Port.
According to the port authority, total volumes handled through the indirect transit RORO service since its launch have reached 133 trucks carrying around 2,450 tons of cargo destined for Gulf markets, reflecting rising confidence in the corridor’s operational efficiency and logistics capabilities.
Cargo handling, customs clearance, and operational procedures were completed through coordinated efforts between the Damietta Port Authority, Pan Marine Group as the service operator, and the transit administration of Damietta Customs, supported by integrated digital systems designed to accelerate procedures and reduce cargo clearance times.
The authority said the RORO service offers several competitive advantages, including faster transport times, streamlined procedures, and improved supply chain efficiency, alongside facilitations provided for indirect transit cargoes moving toward Gulf markets.
The growing cargo volumes highlight Damietta Port’s expanding role as a strategic logistics gateway connecting Europe with the Gulf region while supporting Egypt’s broader plans to enhance maritime transport, boost transit trade, and strengthen the country’s position within regional and international supply chains.
