Maersk Introduces UCR Requirement for Egyptian Export Bookings
Shipping Arabia, July 16, 2026 – Maersk will require a valid Unique Consignment Reference for all export bookings from Egypt beginning July 17, in line with updated customs procedures implemented through the Nafeza single-window platform.
The 19-digit UCR will be mandatory for every Egyptian export shipment and must be obtained by the exporter through Nafeza before a booking is submitted to the carrier.
Maersk said the reference is required to support electronic processing, customs compliance and shipment tracking throughout the export clearance process.
Customers must enter a valid UCR in the designated field when submitting bookings through Maersk channels, including INTTRA and electronic data interchange platforms. The shipper’s name and booking information must also match the export shipment data registered in Nafeza.
Bookings submitted without a valid UCR, or containing incorrect or mismatched information, will not be accepted. Invalid bookings will be canceled and customers will be required to submit a new booking using the correct reference, subject to available vessel capacity.
Once a booking has been submitted, Maersk will not accept amendments to the UCR or changes replacing the registered shipper with another party. Customers seeking to change either detail must cancel the existing booking and submit a new request.
Split-booking requests will also no longer be accepted under the revised process. Cases requiring a booking to be divided after container allocation may be reviewed individually by the customer service team.
As part of the new customs compliance requirements, Maersk will provide Egyptian Customs with an Empty Container List covering units released against customer bookings. Exporters must therefore ensure that the containers used are correctly assigned to the relevant booking and shipment.
The new requirements will apply to all Maersk export bookings submitted from July 17 onward.
