Saudi Arabia Invests More Than $170 Million to Expand Jeddah Islamic Port Capabilities

Shipping Arabia, July 16, 2026 – Saudi Arabia is advancing the expansion of Jeddah Islamic Port through additional investments exceeding SAR 641 million ($171 million), aimed at increasing terminal capacity, modernizing cargo-handling equipment and strengthening the port’s ability to accommodate growing global trade flows.

The Saudi Ports Authority, Mawani, said the investments are designed to enhance operational efficiency and reinforce the port’s position as a major logistics gateway on the Red Sea. The program includes additional container-handling equipment, expanded terminal space and a significant increase in infrastructure for refrigerated cargo.

The operational enhancements include three ship-to-shore cranes, 27 rubber-tired gantry cranes, 91 terminal trucks and seven additional ground-handling equipment units. The investment also covers an additional 200,000 square meters of container terminal space.

Cold-chain capabilities will be expanded substantially, with the number of reefer connection points increasing from 4,800 to 9,000. Cold-storage infrastructure will also grow from eight to 75 cold rooms, supporting increased handling capacity for temperature-sensitive cargo and strengthening the port’s role in regional food, pharmaceutical and refrigerated supply chains.

The investments involve Red Sea Gateway Terminal and DP World, which operate container terminal facilities at Jeddah Islamic Port under long-term concession agreements.

Located on the Red Sea and along one of the world’s busiest maritime trade corridors, Jeddah Islamic Port serves as a key gateway for Saudi imports and exports and an important transshipment hub connecting markets across Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

The latest enhancements form part of Saudi Arabia’s wider program to modernize port infrastructure, increase operational capacity and develop an integrated logistics ecosystem under the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030.
