Port of Tripoli Joins High-Level Lebanese-Syrian Talks to Advance Border Crossings and Transit Cooperation
Shipping Arabia, July 17, 2026 – The Port of Tripoli participated in a high-level Lebanese delegation meeting focused on strengthening border crossing infrastructure, enhancing transit facilitation and improving trade connectivity between Lebanon and Syria.
The Lebanese delegation, led by Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny, met with the Chairman of Syria’s General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, Qutaiba Badawi, at the authority’s headquarters. The meeting also brought together representatives from Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Lebanese-Syrian Joint Security and Military Committee, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Lebanon, Iyad Al-Hazzaa.
Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the management and development of border crossings, improving coordination between the relevant authorities in both countries, and facilitating the movement of passengers, commercial cargo and transit traffic.
Participants also reviewed plans to rehabilitate border crossing infrastructure, address operational challenges affecting truck movements and streamline border procedures through enhanced joint coordination. The initiatives are intended to improve cross-border efficiency while supporting the growing flow of regional trade between Lebanon and Syria.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continued technical cooperation and sustained follow-up through joint committees to advance bilateral trade, facilitate transit operations and promote shared economic interests.
The participation of the Port of Tripoli reflects the port’s growing role in supporting regional logistics integration and highlights the importance of coordinated border and transport policies in strengthening supply chain connectivity across the Eastern Mediterranean and Levant.
